Latest survey wave completed

Heartfelt thanks to everyone who took part in our recent survey of people who smoke or have recently stopped smoking. EASE is an important health survey and we really appreciate your participation. The Wave 6 survey closed in December last year. A total of TBC people took part, from all over the country, and from various age groups, walks of life, and ethnic groups.

Congratulations to prize winners

The lucky winners of the prize draw for the five $500 vouchers were survey participants from Auckland, Taranaki, Wellington, Canterbury, and Waikato. Congratulations!

What happens next?

We’ve got funding from the New Zealand Health Research Council to keep going with the survey. We hope you’ll be willing to take part again. The next wave (Wave 7) will happen in 2027. We’ll get in touch again before then to let you know the exact timing and invite you to join in.

What if my contact details change?

So that we can get hold of you for the Wave 7 survey, please let us know if your email address or phone number changes. Please call 0800 500 168 or email katrina.magill@researchnz.com to update your contact details.

Where can I find out about the findings of the EASE survey?

We have been busy analysing the data from Waves 3, 4, and 5. You can read about the findings on the project website: www.otago.ac.nz/EASE
You can also find out more about the survey and the people and organisations involved on the website.

Meet the team

The EASE survey is led by Professor Richard Edwards and Associate Professor Andrew Waa  (Ngāti Hine) who work with a team of researchers, including Professor El Shadan Tautolo, our Pacific lead.
In each of these newsletters, we spotlight one of the team, and this time it is Negin Maroufi. Negin joined the EASE team in late 2025 as an Assistant Research Fellow.

Originally from Iran, Negin now enjoys living in the coolest little capital, Wellington. Outside work, she is a keen reader, loves listening to music, and dreams of travelling the world one day.
The EASE team wish you and your whānau all the best.
